Thank you for your e-mails of 19th and 27th August and 6th September to the First Minister, the Rt Hon Alex Salmond MSP in which you highlight the disgraceful behaviour of a minority of Celtic supporters at the Emirates Stadium, London in August, 2010. I have been asked to reply and apologise for the delay in responding.
The First Minister and his Scottish Government Ministerial colleagues share your condemnation of any form of abuse directed at Armed Forces personnel at sporting or other events. He is particularly disappointed that abuse was directed at those who stand in defence of this nation and those across the world who are unable to defend themselves. Scottish Ministerial support for our Armed Forces and Veterans is absolute. However, Scottish Government Ministers have no locus to intervene as this is a matter for the Scottish football authorities and the constituent member clubs.
The fine men and women who make up our Armed Forces are drawn from all walks of life across the political spectrum and will support any number of football teams, including Celtic FC. Many will be on active service at the moment. As your complaint is directed at supporters of Celtic FC, I would suggest you approach the Club directly or the Scottish football authorities with your concerns.
