Celtic have condemned fans who unfurled a banner which claimed the poppy was "bloodstained" by military activity in Northern Ireland.

The club said: "The actions of this small minority have no place at Celtic Park. We are currently investigating ... and apologise for any offence."

Ex-servicemen were angered in the run-up to Remembrance Sunday after the banner also criticised military action in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Celtic have launched an investigation into the incident, which appears to breach stadium rules forbidding political demonstrations.

Poppy Scotland said the flying of the anti-poppy banner on Saturday was disrespectful.
But The Herald said some Celtic fans are uncomfortable supporting the Poppy Appeal.

A group called The Green Brigade regularly expresses republican views and has stepped up pro-IRA chants.
